Introduction

Title: "NutriFacts: Your Personalized Guide to Healthy Eating"

Author: Parlapalli Anuhya, UX researcher and designer.

The problem: Poor nutrition is a significant public health issue, leading to chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.

The goal: Our goal is to help individuals achieve optimal health through proper nutrition, whether it be managing a chronic condition, losing weight, or simply improving overall health.

Project background: The nutrition tutoring app involves the increasing awareness of the importance of nutrition and healthy eating habits in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There is a growing concern about the prevalence of chronic diseases caused by poor nutrition, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. As a result, there is a high demand for tools and resources that can help individuals make informed choices about their diet and improve their overall health.

Research goals: The nutrition tutoring app was developed to help individuals improve their diet and overall health by providing personalized nutrition coaching and guidance in an easy-to-use and accessible mobile application.

Research Questions

  • What are the nutritional needs and goals of the app's target audience, and how can the app be tailored to meet these needs?

  • What are the usability issues or areas for improvement in the app's design and functionality, and how can these be addressed to improve user experience?

  • How accurate and up-to-date is the nutritional information provided in the app's database of food items and meal plans, and what improvements can be made to ensure the information is reliable and helpful for users?

  • What trends and insights can be identified from user data, such as food diary entries and progress towards nutritional goals, and how can these be used to inform the app's ongoing development and improvement?

  • What is the impact of the app on users' nutritional knowledge, eating habits, and overall health, and how can the app be optimized to provide the greatest benefit to users?

  • By addressing these research questions, the nutrition tutoring app can be continuously improved and optimized to meet the needs of its users and provide a valuable resource for improving nutrition and overall health.

Ideation

I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas of how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on user-friendly interface designs, personalized nutrition and meal plans.

Digital Wireframes

After ideating and drafting some paper wireframes, I created the initial designs for the Nutrifacts app. These designs focused on delivering personalized guidance to users to help them plan their diets.

Low-fidelity Prototype

To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of viewing the plans and choosing them to complete the tasks and maintain their diets.

Mockups

Changes in the screens made a customized user flow to select their plan and manage their diet accordingly. This makes the user easy to identify their plan and maintain up to the mark.

Additional design changes included adding a calorie tracker to the home page and creating a button to make customized plan changes on the bottom of the page.

High-fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype including some design changes and screen changes made after the usability study.
